Siegel, Linda. (2013). Understanding dyslexia and other learning disabilities. Vancouver, B.C: Pacific Educational Press.
Linda Siegel's book about Learning Disabilities is a description of the trials and tribulations that those with Dyslexia are faced with in school and throughout life. She welcomes her readers in a journey through the hard times and successes through real life stories of those who suffer with Learning Disabilities. She puts the readers at ease by presented her findings in an inviting and engage way allowing her readers to better understand what those with Dyslexia are challenged with and some changes and strategies that our eduction system must start using. She, like I, believes that "solving the problem of learning disabilities is within our grasp. But it will take dedication and desire to succeed (p.15)."
I have personal and professional experiences with those who suffer from Learning Disabilities (LD). This book is one that I have shared with other parents who have children with Learning Disabilities. Overall it is easy to understand and provides parents and teachers with some reasons of "why" their kids are struggling and it is not because the "parent" did not spending enough time reading with their kids. Most of all this book provides hope as it gives educators and parents concrete ways of supporting those with learning disabilities. Further more it encourages those with LD to persist with their dreams and aspirations through describing other success stories of famous and ordinary people.
